Abstract:The Web changes the dynamic between buyers and sellers. From the desparing, luckless Willy Loman in "Death of a Salesman" to the desperate, rapacious real estate agents of "Glengarry Glenross", the salesman has been held in less than high regard in the public imagination. As the Internet continues to evolve, provoking us to rethink standard operating procedure in everything from publishing to getting a date, one theory says we'll one day dance to the death knell of the middleman, that distorter of market efficiency and end-user pricing who stands in the way of a tighter producer-consumer relationship and the promise of lower prices.
