| Abstract: | From Jan. to Aug., 1996, the contracted foreign investment amounted to US$ 52.9 billion, up 24% over the same period of last year. By the end of Aug., there were 274914 foreign funded enterprises established in China, with the actually used foreign funds reaching US$ 161.07 billion. The scale of foreign-funded projects was enlarged and their industrial structure was getting rational. In 1997, there are some favourable factors in utilising foreign investment, including the steady development of domestic economy, the great increase of foreign exchange reserve, the enhanced capacity of financing internationally, more favourable policy of utilising foreign investment, and also some unfavourable ones like weak infrastructure, a shortage of matched funds for foreign currency and state-owned enterprises which have not extricated themselves. |
