Abstract:The positioning of change processes provides a set of propositions on what type of change is appropriate in different contexts described by the configuration of the forces of change and resistance. These propositions can be expressed in terms of a predicted set of change variable values. The actual change processes in six live case studies seem to reflect the predicted set of change variable values rather well. The main discrepancy seems to be associated with the shifting of the case companies from one type of change process to another. This movement (shifting) also reflects the impact of managerial intervention. The change consistency hypothesis has practical implications for the management of change in organizations. However, the analysis of the impact of managerial intervention on the change process and vice versa goes beyond the article.
