Abstract:The luncheon room of the New York Stock Exchange is packed with the players and friends of the John F. Kennedy Knights high school football team. At a podium, Richard A. Grasso, chairman of the NYSE, is recounting a story, "Someone once asked me where my family's wealth came from", he tells the crowd of inner-city students, who had no place to hold their awards dinner before the NYSE donated its space. "I said: "Oil, gas, and rubber." I grew up in Queens. My relatives ran an Exxon station near LaGuardia Airport."
