Abstract:Among the globally most successful new ventures so called "late-beginners" form the largest subgroup. These are companies that typically enter traditional industries, characterized by established companies with large capacities, with conventional business plans. First it is shown in a simple model how a successful market entry can be managed even in such an extremely adverse environment by a strategy of self-restriction. In the next step it is illustrated how the resources accumulated in this environment later can be used to support dynamic growth. This "Two-Stages" approach explains some of the advantages of these late-beginners compared to many new ventures with high growth ambitions from the beginning.
