Abstract:The following paper empirically analyzes the investment decisions of venture capitalists in Germany. The management team was found to be a key factor in evaluating investment suitability, thus confirming previous studies. The most important criteria in selecting an investment are the entrepreneurs' abilities to recognize risks, their tenacity, and their ability to communicate. In practical terms, the research results offer some guidelines for preparing business plans, insofar as the importance of the criteria can be taken into account. In the international comparison, studies done on various continents arrive at comparable conclusions, though there are differences in some important details of the German study: in Germany, significantly less experience is required of the entrepreneurs.
