Abstract: | This introductory presents this issue's contents. The papers of the issue demonstrate the relevance to organization studies of the interest social theorists have shown in exploring the interdependence of the material, the psychological, the social and the cultural. They clearly illustrate the intimacy of such factors, the centrality of artefacts to both thought and actions, and the complex and ambiguous nature of the objects of work. In addition, as argued in this introduction, the notion of object is of particular significance for organization studies, focusing attention on the organizations work, uncovering practices rather than beliefs, and drawing attention to transitions and possibilities. |
