| Abstract: | In this study, compared is the output efficiency of 9 German Labour Courts of Appeal (Landesarbeitsgerichte) from 1980 to 1998. New output indicators are considered: published judicial opinions (henceforth as: opns.) and opns. upheld in judicial review. Efficient courts (as: cts.) can be discriminated from inefficient cts. However, the efficiency levels of some cts. change significantly over time. The applied method of performance measurement recognizes professional autonomy. It can be extended to cts. in other jurisdictions and at other levels of the legal process, as well original in German). |
