Abstract:Various efficiency measures are compared by investigating the sets that are termed efficient. There are two basic approaches to this concept. One is a fractional programming approach known as the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), and the other is to impose axioms on the production technology and the concept is defined in terms of these axioms. A measure of technical efficiency developed by Farrell, the weak input measure of technical efficiency developed by Fare and Grosskopf, and the Russel measure of technical efficiency developed by Fare and Lovell are discussed.
