Abstract:The purpose of this article is to examine the role of government export promotion. According to the author, government has two major aims in export promotion schemes, ie trade balance targets, and improving the international competitiveness of the domestic industry. The second is vital both in competing with imports at home, and in successfully doing business in foreign markets. The author believes that, realistically, export promotion should be applied in areas, where firms have greatest export potential accompanied by greatest need for information/expertise.
