Abstract: | As an industry matures, profitability matters more, and other objectives - such as improving competitive position and increasing market share - matter rather less. Yet, although profit improvement becomes the major objective, companies often encounter severe difficulties in formulating strategies to bring it about. Individual managers may continually seek profit improvement opportunities within their own areas of responsibility, but major opportunities are frequently missed because these affect several different functions simultaneously. |
