Abstract:A steady stream of industrial disasters raises questions of how far companies should go in pursuit of profits. The right balance in business ethics means balancing between respect for public standards of morality and doing what's best for the shareholders. A company needs to be at peace with society. Where management's fiduciary duty makes it impossible to take action to moderate an unethical situation, the onus is on the company to develop a public relations policy to explain its position.
