Abstract:An area of artificial intelligence called expert systems, which emulates the reasoning of human experts in a particular domain, is right now in full progress. Classical data processing with what is called data bases stores declarative informations or data. The end-user must reason himself about the obtained information in function of their objectives. Especially in sciences as economics and management, reasoning processes are often based on heuristics and uncertainties. Artificial intelligence systems are well adapted to those types of reasoning by using not only declarative information but also procedural knowledge. These new techniques are presented in a survey of applications.
