Abstract:OS/2, the operating system designed by IBM and Microsoft is characterized as launching a revolution in 32-bit microcomputing. It is 100 % upwardly compatible with DOS. Some PC users have already chosen Unix or one of its derivatives. Marketing strategies of competitors IBM and Compaq are described and evaluated. Some opinions are reviewed on the new micro operating system for Intel 80386 chip. Advantages of OS/2 are seen in the context of the improved features of the new micro systems: substantially expanded memory, increasing processing speeds, remarkable networking capabilities, and better graphics. Experiments and early users' experience with OS/2 are discussed.
