Abstract:The Irish state radio and TV service (RTE) has lost its monopoly of the airwaves. The setting up of new local commercial stations were decided in which RTE cannot participate. Licenses will be given to pirate stations operated up to now actually unlicensed. Licenses will be valid for seven years and three percent of the advertising revenue should be paid to the state. From the 12-hour broadcasting two hours should be located to news and public affairs. The question is still open who will grant licenses.
