| Abstract: | It is necessary to find a compromise between the contradictory targets inventory, utilization, lead time and due date performance. The paper proposes first to record periodically the mentioned objectives and their relations with a monitoring system. The basic idea is to define the targets as a percentage approximation to a realistic ideal state. This enables the production planner to compare and optimize alternative production processes as a whole. In practice such a system can be used in all horizons of the production planning and control for investment decision support, the setting parameters in a manufacturing control system up to operative use in a decentralized control centre. |
