| Abstract: | The Ukranian president has chalked up success and his reward is restoration of relations with the IMF. But labour unrest and wage arrears in the state sector are imminent pitfalls. If one trait is characteristic of Ukranian president Leonid Kuchma, it is determination. Like Russian prime minister Viktor Chernomyrdin, he was a director of a large industrial complex during the soviet era and had the reputation of being a hardliner when he entered post-soviet politics after 1991. |
