Abstract:Austrian Creditanstalt was snatched away from almost certain union with First Austrian and EA-Generali. The takeover was planned by Austrian politicians, and it had nothing to do with market forces, but everything to do with Viennese power games. This story reports on this very Austrian privatization. Gerhard Randa, chairman of predator Bank Austria sees this as a chance to put an Austrian bank into the big league. He says, that the political agreement and the purchase of the Creditanstalt stakes are two different things with nothing in common.
