Abstract:USA multinationals can no longer afford to compete in world markets without some help from Washington. Nostalgic notions of free trade are dead. With the emergence of new non-western trading countries, the most notable being Japan, the United States must deal with the realities of what is called "adverse trade". Its aim is to drive the competitors out of the market altogether rather than to let the competitor win.
