Abstract: | Most of those Russian adults who feel that they are poor are not classified as such in the poverty statistics, and most of those who are classified as poor do not feel that way. This paper studies the determinants of peoples' perceptions of their economic welfare in an unusually rich socioeconomic survey. While income is a highly significant predictor, subjective economic welfare is influenced by many other factors incl. health, education, employment, assets, relative income in the area of residence and expectations about future welfare. |
