| Abstract: | This article studies the bank lending channel and differences in its effectiveness in Italian banks. The author finds that after a monetary tightening, the decrease in lending is lower for banks with strong capitalization and are perceived less risky by the market. Banks with liquid reserves can protect their loans against monetary tightening by simply drawing down cash and securities. |
