| Abstract: | The authors describe a simple heuristic for computing the number of kanbans in a kanbam system. The production systems considered have a multistage, uncapacitated, assemply tree structure, with each stage producing a single item at a time. According to experiments, the method is very good. In more realistic problems the proposed method yields the same solution as the LP does. This heuristic can be applied in existing just-in-time operations. |
