Abstract:For one-to-one marketing of financial services individualization can be achieved by optimizing financial service solutions in respect of the customer's individual situation. Loans are an important component of such solutions. This paper shows how the accretion of discount of bullet loans can be optimized for the customer in respect of his net present value. For the calculation of the loan, at first a constant interest rate is considered. Then the approach is enhanced towards consideration of general interest rate structures. It is also shown that some frequently used rules of thumb do not generally apply. There are cases, in which accretions of discount and interest are income-tax-deductable and accretions of discount, against the usual recommendation, should be minimized.
