Abstract: | The main objective of the article is to present an overview of the normative regulation on establishment of bank branches within the European Community (European Union).On the one hand the establishment of bank branches within the European Community was Iiberalized by the EEC Agreement (which has been replaced by the agreement on the European Union into The Agreement on European Community).On the other hand, a special arrangement with regard to the establishment of bank branches (or, to be more exact, branches of credit institutions) by the Directive of the Council of European Communities, called the Second Banking Directive, 89/646/ EEC. The Second Banking Directive in the field of establishing bank branches within the Community introduces the principle of single banking license and home member state supervision of branches, i.e. member state, in which the headquarters of a bank or credit institution are located. |
