Abstract:Since its establishment, the Islamic Republic of Iran has encountered both internal and external problems. However, since the inauguration of A.H.Rafsanjani as president internal social and economic conditions seem less bleak. In this paper the authors utilize a framework of analysis laid out by the scholarship of Islamic Economics to evaluate the economic performance of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It is concluded that while the country suffers from a severe shortage of skilled personnel, technicians, and people with technical training, the major obstacle to economic progress is political.
