Abstract:Corporate interest in political risk increased in the 1970s and surged in the wake of the 1979 Iranian Revolution. Discussed are the assumptions behind the belief that political risk is relatively unimportant to exporters, contractors, and foreign licensors. Examined are the United States corporate losses in Iran as depicted in 300 awards and awards on agreed terms issued by the USA-Iran Claims Tribunal at the Hague in order to illustrate empirically the implications of political risk to non-FDI market entry.
