Abstract:The gardening products can be broken down into four sectors: green products /trees, flowers, vegetables, seeds, etc./, garden furniture, appliances /lawnmowers and other tools/, and chemicals, peat and fertilizers. In 1989 the market in France grew by 6 percent in real terms, this is expected to continue up to 1994 at an annual average of 8 percent. Indoor plants were the largest sector. The industry is highly fragmented. The garden products market 1985-1989 is overviewed. The great bulk of the market is met by domestic output in France. The market by sectors is analyzed for 1988/89 and 1989. Consumers' attitudes toward the garden and retail distribution data are shown, and an outlook is given.
