Abstract:The selection of managers for international assignments is frequently based on the personal characteristics and the technical competence of the manager. Many of these managers have not been successful during their expatriation assignments. To select overseas managers international human resource managers must examine their corporate goals, pools of candidates, and the personal characteristics of each candidate. This paper develops a planning format which identifies policy, strategic and tactical dimensions to select managers for international assignments.
