Abstract:This article is devoted to cost and performance waste management. As one of the most necessary chimeras of value creation, information technology is the deepest money pit for organizations at all levels of maturity. Software and hardware producers have become so competitively innovative that their product half-lives have become one of their most significant performance measures: How quickly can we create a new version that makes our current version obsolete? On the other hand, how much functionality does a word processing program really need? IT waste management is underrepresented in the management literature, and this article begins to focus attention on how non-IT executives can work to measure and manage IT performance.
