Abstract:International managers need to keep in mind that the manufacturer's legal responsibility for a product does not stop at the point of manufacture. To some extent the manufacturer continues to be liable for the product even after it has been sold and used. This liability varies significantly from country to country. In the USA, claims and torts against manufacturers are for more common than in any other industrialized nation. Statistics show the rising incidence of product liability lawsuits over the last several decades. Some important related sub-topics are investigated including definition and background, case histories, current changing situation, and ramifications. The links between liability and insurance are examined.
