Abstract: | The US product liability law is discussed. The problem of foreign corporations is raised. Jurisdictional inquiries are described. The Worldwide Volkswagen v. Woodson case is described as the first landmark case defining specific jurisdiction doctrine in product liability actions. The Asahi v. Superior Court of California case is analyzed in detail. Some useful strategies for avoiding the jurisdiction of American courts are revealed by examining specific situations. The problems of manufacturers, component part manufacturers and distributors are compared. The consultation with an American counsel is suggested. |
