Abstract:Arguments are presented that sociology of labour focuses too much on the modernization of manufacturing processes. It is shown that, if new technologies are taken into account in terms of the functionality of a consumer product, then deep changes are necessary in the organization of firms, and both the manufacturing processes and methods of personnel management must be renovated. The case of the household electrical appliances is described and analyzed. The most important facts of technological development are considered. New types of investment are identified. It is shown how the forms of cooperation and competition have changed. The main characteristics of personnel and industrial culture are discussed.
