Abstract: | This article presents some possible ways in which traditional, static, statistical process control (SPC) rules can be improved, by analyzing numerical examples using a specific process control model. This study's model extends Ross' two-state model to account for inspection delay, allow dynamic choice of whether to keep production going during inspection or/and restoration, and add lot sizing. Direct implementation of the model is not required to gain useful insights. It is plausible that quality constrol managers can devise ways to exploit the opportunities presented by fine tuning their already successful SPC rules. |
