Abstract: | A recently developed alternative to traditional planning and control systems such as MRP and JIT is the drum/buffer/rope (DBR) system. The most obvious application of the DBR is when plant performance is constrained by a lack of manufacturing capacity at a key workcenter. This study investigates two issues relating to the operation of the DBR. Specifically, what order review release (ORR) methodologies are best suited for a DBR and what is the impact of splitting process batches into several transfer batches? First, a brief introduction to the DBR system is presented for those readers unfamiliar with the system. |
