Abstract: | Under the JIT philosophy, making parts in small lots is expected to have a strong positive effect on product quality. Contrary to the JIT philosophy, some authors indicate the presence of an inverse relationship between run length and product quality. The intent of this paper is not to justify or condone one philosophy over the other, but to incorporate this influence of run lenght on product quality into a production control model that can be utilized under either circumstance.
