Abstract: | Advances is modelling techniques and computational tools have provided new approaches to the layout problem. GA´s are general purpose search procedures modelled on natural selection and evolutionary principles. This paper presents a parallel GA approach to the facility layout problem which improves on previous work in terms of schema coding and solution method. Four Parallel GA´s are developed and compared. The results indicate that the distributed and totally distributed parallel GA consistently outperform others, independent of problem size and number of processors. |
