Abstract:This study examines how societal (hereafter as: soc-al.) and industrial (here as: ind-al.) sector-specific peculiarities moderate the translation of intra-organizational openness into innovativeness. A sample comprising (N=24) subsystems (here as: subs.) from privatized (here as: prtzd.) Romanian (here as: R.) natural gas companies (here as: comps.) and (N=26) subs. from prtzd. R. mechanical engineering comps. is analyzed. The study aims to contribute to answering the question which ind-al. sector-specific conditions (here as: conds.) are conducive to success given the current soc-al. and economic conds. in R. The findings indicate that in the mechanical engineering industry, there is a linear connection btw. opening processes and success, while this relationship is of a curvilinear nature in the natural gas industry.
