| Abstract: | The paper considers the changes to the roles of academics that have occurred in recent years and those that are likely to emerge, or increase in importance, in the next decade. These are linked to a discussion of issues surrounding, and approaches to, the effective preparation and continuing development of academics for the various roles. The roles of academics are numerous, for each function can spawn a number of roles. |
