Abstract: | This paper highlights the conditions under which organizations initiate changes in two distinct institutional (here as: inst-al.) contexts. Pooled cross-sectional data from 1920 to 2001 in the baseball industry are regressed to examine a set of hypotheses predicting the drivers of organizational (here as: org-al.) change in periods of inst-al. (in)stability, as well as the impact of these changes on performance. The findings show among others that the role of aspiration-driven org-al. change diminishes in environments characterized by inst-al. instability. |
