Abstract:The article looks at the high cost of email mismanagement, and suggests it's time for finance to take control. Spam certainly is getting to be the major issue. Unwanted and unsolicited emails already cause more headaches for business than viruses: over the past few months, virus activity has been experiencing single digit growth while spam increased at between 10% and 30%. It is estimated that each piece of unwanted email costs $1 in lost productivity. So, friendly junk email could cost a company with 500 employees nearly $370,000 each year. As the problem has such huge financial implications for business, perhaps it's time for finance take control.
