| Abstract: | The authors consider the central dilemmas of wage policies in state socialist economies. They review the pre-1978 Chinese low-wage and high employment policy and discuss the wage policies during the eighties. The authors analyze the dynamics and contradictions which resulted in inflation, declining productivity and falling real wages. |
