Abstract: | This study deals with how organizational identity (OI) and organizational legitimacy (OL) have interplayed within two British building societies (henceforth as: b-soc/s.) during environmental (here as: env-al) changes during two decades. Identified are four notable phases of env-al changes in the British b-soc/s. sector. Based on comparative analysis of the two firms' responses to the environmental changes, it is found that both firms paid substantive attention and efforts to OI narration and re-narration to regain OL. Four properties were identified on the interplay btw. OI narrative and OL: level, locus, mechanism and approach etc. |
