Abstract: | The ecological economics has adopted a quite pluralistic approach to methodology. This article discusses the work of two authors: Adolph Lowe and Robert Heilbroner. It is argued that Lowe's Political Economics and Heilbroner's "Worldly Philosophy" are works that can inform us about the development of some of the methodological themes running through the ecological economics literature. The themes are following: the importance and nature of vision, analysis, scenarios, implementation, the necessity of working backwards, the role for imagination, and rejecting the hypothetico/deductive method and the positive/normative dichotomy. |
