Abstract:Companies, investors and fund managers are facing challenges presented by selecting, applying and reporting on investment screens for socially responsible investing (SRI). This paper aims to clear the nature of those challenges in developing an understanding of the foundations of ethical investment screens. Finding a common element to the ethical foundations of SRI assists in explaining the information asymmetry problem inherent in SRI. Fostering the development of socially responsible investment is illustrated by a market-facilitated answer.
