Abstract:The Australian Government has placed quality on the agenda in higher education by its decision to provide an annual allocation of $ 75 million from 1994 to reward effective quality assurance policies and practices, and excellent outcomes. This article outlines the strategies employed by one Australian university, in response to increasing external accountability, to manage quality internally by devolving responsibility for quality advancement to faculties and schools.
