Abstract:A study of 13 different forms of performance pay, and factors that can influence on their occurrence is presented in the article. The data is gathered in 315 Canadian and Australian firms, and the results show how most forms of performance pay are quite similar in these two countries. Various factors explain the occurrence of performance pay, but as expected, are the most important predictors company size and unionization, although neither of these explained the performance pay of groups. The data also shows how organizational performance pay is mostly used in high involvement firms in both Canada and Australia. The article indicates how there is convergence in international payment practices, but the importance of company-level factors and the national context are also underlined.
