Abstract: | In this study, selected management practices (hereafter as: m-prcs.) are compared among visitor attractions (here as: v-attrs.) of Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Scotland. A questionnaire was sent via mail to all paid-admission v-attrs. producing a total of 1022 replies from v-attrs., representing an overall response rate of 41 percent. Chi-square analysis was used to test various hypotheses relating to the uptake of these m-prcs. As key conclusion Scotland does not necessarily lag behind although m-prcs. vary significantly among the four countries. Indeed, in many respects Scottish v-attrs. seem to be leading the way. Meanwhile, there is found no strong evidence suggesting that v-attrs. in the other three countries have indeed identified and are following a common 'international best practice'. |
