Abstract:By examining both the attitudes to Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) and the made investment choices, this study aims to better understand the disparity btw. the positive attitudes towards SRI and the level of investment in SRI. Those who are more committed to principles of environmental sustainability are hypothesized to be more likely to invest in SRI. In order to test this, over 300 people from two large Queensland organisations are surveyed as to their investment attitudes (here as: atts.) and preferences. It is found that there are significant differences in investment atts. with environmentalists (here as: envmlsts.) placing more importance on SRI investment criteria. However, there was no significant difference btw. envmlsts. and non-envmlsts. in terms of utility scores from an investment selection experiment with the envmlsts. placing higher importance on financial performance criteria than SRI criteria, making choices similar to those with the lowest level of environmental activism.
