| Abstract: | This research explores the extent to which travellers visiting friends and relatives (or VFR travellers) use commercial accommodation (hereafter as: c-acc.) in the Sunshine Coast, Australia. The characteristics and behaviours of this particular type of VFR traveller is profiled. It is indicated that 26 percent of the VFRs stayed in c-acc. (or CVFRs) which is closely aligned with research using the same method in a comparative destination (Ballarat, Australia), indicating that 22 percent of VFRs stayed in c-acc. CVFR travellers occupied similar types of c-acc. as non-VFRs, engaging in similar tourism activities. However, they came from different generating regions, using different sources of information for the planning of their trip. |
