Abstract:The implications of the learning curve for competitive strategy under a range of assumptions regarding competition and the nature of the learning process are explored. The optimal decision rules which apply when a learning curve is present are considered and the results of a dynamic model of competitive equilibrium are reported. Then a game-theory model is used to examine how the learning rate and information diffusion affect entry barriers, profits, and price dynamics. Some extensions and implications are suggested.
